We present to you this beautiful Moto Guzzi Le Mans 1000 is No 82 out of 100 Ultima Edizione. This absolute beauty is the best presented, top of the range racing machines of its time We are very proud to have her as a part of The Home of Motorcycles and soon you can come and see her not only on display in our shop but also strolling thru Essex scenic bike routes.
Guzzis’ Le mans story goes back to 1969 and the famous “Tonti Frame” that changed the Moto Guzzi racing story for many years to come! Our plan for this machine is to keep it in its’ original form. No custom work has been carried out on it- even though it was tempting to put an Armadillo stamp on!
For the start we’ve stripped the bike to take off bottom part of the forks, wheels and swinging arm for sand blasting and powder coating. Once we started to dismantle the forks we noticed bent stanchions! Then we realised there’s no oil in the forks itself… oh boy, here we go! Luckily, we didn’t come across any more Italian surprises!
We’ve cleaned the rust off the dampers, done a refurb, and assembled freshly powder coated bottom forks with new stanchions. Removed the wheels, tyres and bearings, sand blasted and powder coated those to freshen up the look of this Red Legend. Same process for swinging arm and final drive.
After we’ve changed all bearings and put new tyres on newly powder coated perfectly colour matching red wheels, it was time to assemble the bike and carry on with the full service. Starting with valve clearance check to changing all liquids and fluids.
It wasn’t the first Moto Guzzi in our home, probably won’t be last one either, however it certainly is one very special machine and we are excited to share its journey with you!
